Anyone can afford to eat healthy. Here'show you can do it—whatever your diet may be.

Vegans

  • Moong Sprouts and sprouted ragi and amaranth (millet from Gujarat) are nutritionally dense foods.
  • Legumes like red kidney beans or red channa and chickpea can make the meal filling.
  • Eating any two seasonal vegetables can fit into a small budget.
  • Root vegetables like carrots, turnips, or sweet potatoes, either baked or boiled, with healthy fats like coconut oil, can balance a meal.

Vegetarians

  • Yoghurt, raita, or buttermilk adds to the protein content
  • Homemade paneer with jowar or bajra rotis and seasonal vegetables make the meal affordable

Non-vegetarians

  • Fish is a viable protein option; choose high-fat varieties like cod. They are healthier poached or steamed.
  • Add brown rice (which can be cheaper than white rice) and a mixed vegetable soup or curry.
  • Eggs are a cheap, daily source of protein
  • Two vegetables and one protein with whole grains constitutes a well-balanced and affordable meal.

Healthy eating is not limited to the wealthy; it’s a choice we all can make.

An incredible volume of knowledge packed into a manageable size book. Read it through and also use it as a handbook or guide. The material is heavily based on science, but presented in such a way as to function as a checklist. This book is downright fascinating, too. If you desire a longer, healthier life, this book would be a good starting point
